A piece of roller coaster history has found a permanent home in West Texas.
The National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives (NRCMA) announced the arrival of a lead car from Kingda Ka, the record-breaking launch coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The addition marks a significant moment for the museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of historic amusement ride vehicles.
“Kingda Ka has been an icon of thrills and innovation for nearly two decades, and its impact on the roller coaster world is undeniable,” said Ryan Eldredge, public relations manager for Six Flags Great Adventure. “Donating this legendary train to the National Roller Coaster Museum ensures that its legacy will be preserved for future generations of enthusiasts and historians.”
Since opening in 2005, Kingda Ka has drawn thrill-seekers from around the world. At the time of its debut, it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster on the planet, launching riders from 0 to 128 mph in just over three seconds before ascending a 456-foot-tall tower.
The transport and preservation of the vehicle were made possible through a fan-supported fundraising campaign and the support of Six Flags. The journey from New Jersey to Texas was documented by a group of attraction-industry content creators, including Coliwood Studios, Upstop Media and Zooder Loopers.
Preview events celebrating the addition are currently in the planning stages. For more information and the latest tour availability, visit www.rollercoastermuseum.org.
