Grammy-winning Christian artist Zach Williams and rock powerhouse Skillet will headline Dollywood’s annual contemporary Christian music festival, Rock the Smokies, on Saturday, Aug. 23.
The event, held at Dollywood’s Celebrity Theater, will feature multiple performances from both artists, along with several other contemporary Christian acts performing throughout the park.
Williams, known for hits like “There Was Jesus,” his duet with Dollywood’s Dreamer-in-Chief Dolly Parton, has become one of Christian music’s most recognizable voices. His journey from a Southern rock musician to a faith-driven artist has shaped his music and message.
“I can remember walking through the front door crying after I got back from that tour,” Williams said, reflecting on his life-changing decision to leave his former band. “I apologized to my wife and my kids. I asked God to be the Lord of my life, and things started to change.”
Now, Williams prioritizes family over career. “I won’t play anywhere where they can’t come along,” he said. Rock the Smokies allows his family to enjoy the park while he takes the stage.
Joining Williams as co-headliners, Skillet brings its high-energy brand of Christian rock to Dollywood. The Dove Award-winning and Grammy-nominated band, formed in 1996, has gained mainstream success with anthems like “Monster,” “Hero,” and “Awake and Alive.” The band’s latest album, Revolution, will be featured in their setlist.
“We are excited to be at Rock the Smokies this year at Dollywood,” said Skillet frontman John Cooper. “We love whenever we get the opportunity to play in our new home state, and you know that we need to have that famous cinnamon bread at Dollywood. Let’s rock!”
Rock the Smokies also features performances by Alexander Pappas, Micah Christopher, Ivey Asher, and Sansone on stages throughout the park. These performances are included with park admission. Dr. Joy Greene will emcee the Celebrity Theater shows.
Tickets for the headline performances are in high demand. Pre-sale begins Thursday, April 10, with general sales starting Friday, April 11. Premium seating tends to sell out quickly, and a Super Early Bird discount of $19 is available through June 27. Tickets for the Celebrity Theater concerts are sold separately, while other performances are first-come, first-served.
VIP packages, which include premium seating, artist meet-and-greets, and exclusive photo opportunities, are available. Dollywood season passholders can access special pricing. More details, including ticket packages, are available at rockthesmokiesfest.com.
By blending faith-based music with Dollywood’s attractions, Rock the Smokies offers guests a full day of entertainment, making it a standout event for Christian music fans and families alike.
