Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari has unveiled a newly updated Accessibility Guide featuring a sensory rating system and improvements to its Ride Boarding Pass program.
The enhancements, developed in collaboration with the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center in Evansville, Ind., are designed to help guests with disabilities or sensory sensitivities better plan their visits.
The guide includes expanded ride descriptions and a new sensory rating system that evaluates each attraction across five categories: sound, sight, touch, movement and splash. Each category is rated as low, moderate or high in intensity.
“We hope the new ratings will help our Guests with sensory sensitivities plan for an even better visit to our parks,” said Leah Koch-Blumhardt, fourth-generation owner and director of communications. “We couldn’t have created this guide without the help of Easterseals Rehabilitation Center—they’ve been a wonderful partner for more than 30 years.”
The Ride Boarding Pass, which is intended for guests who cannot stand or move through ride queues, has also been revised. This season, guests who qualify can board their first attraction immediately and will then receive a return time for their next ride based on current wait times. Though all guests using the pass will still wait their turn, they will not be required to stand in line.
“We want everyone to feel included in the fun at Holiday World,” Koch-Blumhardt said. “From our Accessibility Guide with new sensory ratings, to our entirely gluten-free restaurant, to our Sensory Calming Room, every year we try to take another step forward in making our parks a place where all are welcome.”
