Cedar Point’s highly anticipated Top Thrill 2 roller coaster will not reopen this season, the park announced Friday. The world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch coaster, which has been inoperative since May 12, was expected to be a major draw for the 2024 season.

The announcement that Top Thrill 2 won’t reopen this year, made via the park’s social media channels, has left many roller coaster enthusiasts disappointed, yet the park assures thrill-seekers that its existing lineup of coasters continues to deliver top-tier experiences.

“We sincerely appreciate your patience while Top Thrill 2’s manufacturer, Zamperla, has been working diligently to complete a mechanical modification to the coaster vehicles,” Cedar Point shared in its statement.

“Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be able to complete the modifications needed in time to reopen the coaster in 2024. We are extremely disappointed that we cannot open the ride this season, but remain committed to delivering a reliable, consistent, and unparalleled coaster experience for our guests in 2025.

“We look forward to having you visit us again in the future to enjoy the world-class rides, signature events, entertainment, and attractions that Cedar Point is known for,” the park added, thanking guests for their continued support.

Cedar Point’s robust selection of coasters minus Top Thrill 2 remains a highlight for visitors:

  • Steel Vengeance, renowned for its record-breaking airtime, continues to captivate riders with its smooth inversions and relentless pace.
  • Millennium Force offers breathtaking views of Lake Erie from its 310-foot drop and remains a beloved staple of the park.
  • Maverick, with its intense launches and tight maneuvers, and the classic Magnum XL-200, which pioneered the hyper coaster genre, ensure thrill-seekers have no shortage of adrenaline-pumping experiences.

While the closure of Top Thrill 2 is a setback, Cedar Point’s diverse array of attractions ensures that visitors can still enjoy a memorable experience at the Roller Coaster Capital of the World.
