In the summer of 1972, a year before The Brady Bunch graced the screens, another iconic TV family left an indelible mark on Kings Island. Episode No. 66 of the beloved 1970s ABC show “The Partridge Family” was aptly titled “I Left My Heart in Cincinnati,” capturing the essence of their five-day adventure at the park from Aug. 7-11, 1972. The episode premiered January 26, 1973 on ABC-TV.
The vibrant cast, including Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, Susan Dey, Danny Bonaduce, Suzanne Crough, and Brian Forster, showcased their infectious energy on International Street, enjoying rides that have become part of the park’s storied history. While some attractions like Halley’s Comet and Der Spinnen’ Keggers are mere memories, others such as The Racer, Grand Carousel, Monster, and the Kings Mills Log Flume (now Charlie Brown’s Rushing River Log Ride) continue to thrill visitors.

The episode revolves around Keith (Cassidy), his mischievous younger brother Danny (Bonaduce), and their manager Rueben Kincaid (Madden) vying for the attention of Mary Ann Mobley, portraying Kings Island’s publicist. The catchy tunes “Girl You Make My Day” and “Together We’re Better” add a musical charm to the nostalgic journey.
Adding to the star-studded episode, National Baseball Hall of Fame member and Cincinnati Reds legend Johnny Bench made a special appearance as a poolside hotel waiter, adding a touch of sports flair to the entertainment mix.
Of the 96 episodes in the four-year series, Bonaduce fondly declared the Kings Island episode as his favorite. His enthusiasm shines through, making it evident that nobody had more fun during those magical five days.
Today, the Kings Island Partridge Family episode continues to captivate audiences through syndication and is available on DVD. Serving as the most significant visual record from the park’s inaugural season, it’s a must-watch for all Kings Island enthusiasts, preserving the timeless charm of a bygone era.
