Fifteen years ago, on January 26, 2009, Kings Island in Mason, Ohio achieved a historic milestone as the final track piece was secured, completing the awe-inspiring Diamondback roller coaster. Standing tall at 230 feet, Diamondback has consistently ranked among the world’s top steel roller coasters, captivating enthusiasts and industry experts alike since its grand opening in 2009.
This adrenaline-fueled ride offers a 215-foot drop at a daring 74-degree angle, propelling riders along a 5,282-foot track with 10 exhilarating drops and speeds reaching up to 80 mph. The unique open-air, stadium-style seating ensures an unobstructed view for every rider as they snake their way through the twists and turns.

Designed by the renowned Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), Diamondback holds the distinction of being the first hypercoaster to feature a splashdown effect. Its strategic location in Rivertown, just behind International Street and the iconic Eiffel Tower, adds to the allure of this colossal thrill ride.
The construction of Diamondback, commencing on October 11, 2007, transformed into a spectacle of anticipation. The removal of a tree marked the beginning, while Swan Lake metamorphosed into the unique location for Diamondback’s splashdown element. On August 6, 2008, Kings Island announced Diamondback as the largest investment in its history, a testament to the park’s commitment to delivering unparalleled experiences. Testing commenced in March, and on April 18, 2009, the roller coaster officially opened its gates to the public.
With a price tag of $22 million, Diamondback marked Kings Island’s most significant investment at the time. Today, it remains a thrilling testament to the park’s dedication to providing unforgettable moments for its visitors.
