As the crisp fall air begins to sweep through the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood’s Harvest Festival presented by Humana stands out as one of the most anticipated events of the season. Running from September 9 to October 28, this annual celebration transforms the beloved theme park into an autumnal wonderland, capturing the essence of the Smokies in all their fall glory. For me, it’s more than just an event—it’s one of my favorite experiences in the amusement and theme park industry.

Dollywood’s transformation during the Harvest Festival is nothing short of magical. The park is adorned with vibrant fall décor, from the shimmering leaves of the Harvest Sky along Showstreet to the thousands of pumpkins scattered throughout the park. This year, the colossal pumpkins, presented by Food City, make a triumphant return, with some gourds weighing up to 1,500 pounds.

A highlight of the festival, Great Pumpkin LumiNights presented by Covenant Health, has quickly become one of the park’s most beloved attractions since its debut in 2017. This award-winning nighttime spectacular has been recognized nationally, winning accolades like the USA Today 10Best Award for Best Theme Park Halloween Event. As night falls, the park comes alive with creatively carved pumpkins and larger-than-life displays, including new ride-themed pumpkins inspired by Dollywood’s iconic attractions. The glow of LumiNights is truly a sight to behold and a testament to Dollywood’s commitment to creating unforgettable guest experiences.

The culinary offerings during the Harvest Festival are equally impressive. From spiced pumpkin bisque to hickory smoked ribs with pumpkin spiced rub, the festival’s seasonal dishes are a feast for the senses. Sweet tooths will delight in treats like apple cider cupcakes at Spotlight Bakery, and with a tasting pass, guests can sample multiple fall flavors for one price.

Music lovers will find themselves immersed in the rich sounds of Southern gospel, bluegrass, jazz, and country music, with over 1,100 performances scheduled throughout the festival. The lineup includes gospel legends like The Isaacs and Triumphant Quartet, as well as country stars Mandy Barnett and Suzy Bogguss. With such a diverse array of talent, there’s always something new to experience on Dollywood’s stages.

Artisans from across the region add to the festival’s charm, offering handmade crafts that capture the spirit of the Smokies. Whether it’s a fall-scented candle, pumpkin-flavored jam, or a piece of hand-blown glassware, there’s a perfect souvenir to bring the magic of Dollywood’s Harvest Festival home.

The fall festivities extend beyond the park to Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa and the newly opened HeartSong Lodge & Resort. Both resorts offer themed activities, new culinary delights, and curated live music performances that continue the celebration of the season. Families can enjoy arts and crafts at Camp DW, indulge in autumnal treats like smoked bratwurst and potato pancakes, and warm up with festive drinks like caramel hot apple cider.

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival is more than just a seasonal event; it’s a celebration of all things fall in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. Whether you’re a local or visiting from afar, this festival is a can’t-miss experience that perfectly captures the warmth and beauty of the season.
