Dollywood has officially kicked off its 40th anniversary season with a celebration led by the park’s namesake and “Dreamer-in-Chief,” Dolly Parton. During a special media day event, Parton welcomed guests and the press, marking her first public appearance since the passing of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, on March 3. I had the privilege of attending the event and witnessing Dolly’s heartfelt gratitude as she shared her appreciation for the outpouring of support she has received from around the world.
Despite the personal loss, Parton’s spirit remained strong as she looked ahead to Dollywood’s milestone year. Joined by Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton, she unveiled exciting plans for the park’s future, including a groundbreaking new project set to debut in 2026.
A Landmark Year for Dollywood
Following a record-setting 2024 season, Dollywood—named the No. 1 U.S. theme park by Tripadvisor—has even more in store for 2025. Last year’s highlights included the debut of The Dolly Parton Experience, recognized by USA Today as one of the Top Five Best New Theme Park Attractions of 2024, and the first full year of operation for Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort.
Among the park’s celebrations this year are the 25th season of Dollywood’s Splash Country and the 10th anniversary of Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa. Additionally, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library marks its 30th year, having distributed over 270 million books to children worldwide.
Dolly’s Message of Gratitude and Dreams
During her address, Parton expressed her gratitude to the guests and community that have supported Dollywood over the decades.
“Thank you to our guests and the community for the support they’ve given to my Dollywood for 40 years,” Parton said. “It’s hard to believe it has been that long, but it never would have lasted if it hadn’t been for you—our guests.”

Parton also introduced the I Will Always Love You Music Festival, running through April 13, as a way to honor both the park’s legacy and her iconic song.
Exciting Announcements and Future Plans
Naughton hinted at a major addition slated for 2026, promising a “revolutionary new experience unlike anything anywhere else in the world.” This project is part of Dollywood’s half-billion-dollar, 10-year expansion plan announced in 2021.

Throughout the off-season, the park completed several construction projects, including refreshed areas in Country Fair and The Village. Country Fair now features a splash pad and expanded seating, while The Village has been brightened up with new touches and a reimagined Imagination Playhouse, which will offer shows inspired by Dolly’s Imagination Library books.
