The Big Bad Wolf is back at Busch Gardens Williamsburg—though not quite as fans remember it.
New this year, The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge is a modern reimagining of the classic suspended roller coaster that thrilled guests from 1984 to 2009. While the new version isn’t a replica of the original, it offers a nostalgic nod to the past, blending immersive theming with a smooth, family-friendly ride experience that still manages to satisfy thrill seekers.
Set during the eerie “Festival of the Silent Bells,” the storyline picks up decades after a monstrous wolf ravaged a Bavarian village, leaving destruction—and werewolves—in its wake. Now, as unsettling sounds and glowing red eyes return to the town, riders become the beast themselves, racing through an abandoned village at speeds up to 40 miles per hour over more than 2,500 feet of track.

The theming is particularly strong, with the return of the atmospheric village setting, onboard audio, and a standout nighttime experience enhanced by the glowing eyes of the wolf. It all creates a rich environment that’s both haunting and exciting.
While not as intense as the original Big Bad Wolf, which featured a thrilling drop over the Rhine River, The Wolf’s Revenge fits neatly into Busch Gardens’ ride lineup. It effectively bridges the gap between high-thrill coasters and more approachable family rides like DarKoaster.
It’s a smooth ride, a strong addition to the park, and an enjoyable way to bring the Big Bad Wolf name back to life. For those who rode the original dozens of times, like I did, it’s not quite the same—but it’s a worthy successor that honors the legacy in its own howling way.
