At a time when theme parks continue to push for bigger thrills and record-breaking roller coasters, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari continues to prove there’s still plenty of room for attractions built around humor, creativity, and memorable storytelling.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary season in 2026, Gobbler Getaway has become one of the park’s most charming and enduring attractions. Created by Sally Corporation and housed inside an 8,732-square-foot show building, the ride blends interactive gameplay, whimsical characters, and a surprisingly heartfelt ending into an experience that continues to resonate with visitors.
Set in the fictional town of Autumn Falls, where the colors of autumn last year-round, Gobbler Getaway transports riders back roughly 200 years to help solve a Thanksgiving crisis. Before boarding, guests meet the animatronic Aunt Abigail Van Snoodle, who explains how Farmer Van Snoodle’s turkeys mysteriously disappeared just before the holiday feast. Fortunately, the runaway birds respond to special turkey callers used by the townspeople, and riders are recruited to help bring them home.

Guests board colorful Turkey Trotter ride vehicles created by Italian manufacturer Bertazzon and use turkey callers to activate targets hidden throughout the attraction. Instead of traditional laser blasters, the ride’s unique gameplay adds to its playful personality and seasonal charm.
As the adventure unfolds, riders journey through the farms and countryside surrounding Autumn Falls, uncovering hidden turkeys tucked into comedic scenes filled with music, movement, and colorful detail. The attraction’s grand finale delivers one of the most memorable endings in any family attraction, with the rescued turkeys launching into a Busby Berkeley-style musical chorus line performance that turns the entire Thanksgiving story on its head.
Part of the attraction’s appeal is its simplicity. Gobbler Getaway combines friendly competition with lighthearted storytelling, creating an experience that appeals to both longtime theme park fans and first-time visitors alike. It’s the kind of attraction that encourages repeat rides, whether guests are trying to improve their score or simply take in all the details they missed the first time through.

If you’re planning a visit to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari this season, Gobbler Getaway deserves a place on your must-do list. While the park is known for acclaimed wooden coasters like The Voyage and its award-winning water attractions, Gobbler Getaway delivers a completely different experience — one driven by humor, music, competition, and timeless theme park storytelling.
As Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2026, attractions like Gobbler Getaway continue to showcase the personality and charm that have made the Santa Claus, Indiana, park a Midwest favorite for generations.
Located within driving distance of Louisville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis, Holiday World remains an ideal destination for families looking for a memorable summer getaway. And 20 years after opening, Gobbler Getaway still proves that a great attraction doesn’t need massive thrills to leave a lasting impression.
