Cedar Point is optimistic that its Top Thrill 2 roller coaster will be ready for the park’s opening day on May 3, following a challenging debut season.

Tony Clark, Cedar Point’s former director of communications and now regional public relations for Six Flags after a corporate restructuring in November, shared the update at the American Coaster Enthusiasts No Coaster Con in Chicago this past Saturday.

According to Clark, Zamperla, the Italian ride manufacturer behind Top Thrill 2, is currently working on modifications to the coaster’s trains. The park expects to receive the updated trains within the next few months, putting the attraction back on track for its second season.

Top Thrill 2, billed as one of the industry’s most anticipated new rides for 2024, made headlines for all the wrong reasons when it shut down just eight days after opening to the public on May 12. The closure left thousands of visitors disappointed and eager for answers.

The reimagined roller coaster, a revamp of the former Top Thrill Dragster, boasts a unique triple-launch design that promises an even more thrilling experience for riders. Despite the initial setbacks, thrill seekers are hopeful that the ride’s return will live up to its lofty expectations.

Cedar Point, widely regarded as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” will celebrate its 156th season when it opens this spring.
