I recently had the pleasure of visiting Waldameer Park in Erie, PA, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience.
Nestled along the shores of Lake Erie, this charming amusement park offers a perfect blend of classic attractions and modern thrills, making it a must-visit destination for families, friends, and thrill-seekers alike. The park’s nostalgic charm reminded me of Cincinnati’s old Coney Island, bringing back fond memories of simpler times and timeless fun.

One of the highlights of my visit was the Ravine Flyer II. This wooden roller coaster did not disappoint, delivering an exhilarating ride that left me breathless. At the top of the lift hill, riders are offered a stunning view of Lake Erie before immediately descending the first drop, turning sharply to the right, and traveling over an airtime hill, crossing Peninsula Drive. The track curves right, then left, ascending into the far turnaround, and drops again for a second crossing of Peninsula Drive. The ride continues with two airtime hills enclosed by tunnels, an ascending left turn, a 90° banked right turn into the ravine, and finally two bunny-hop hills before entering the brake run. The combination of relentless non-stop action and scenic beauty made this coaster an experience that I’ll remember for a long time.
But Waldameer Park is more than just the Ravine Flyer II. There’s a plethora of rides and attractions that cater to all ages and interests. From the classic Ferris Wheel and Merry-Go-Round to the more daring drops and spins, there’s something for everyone. I found myself wandering through the 128-year-old park, discovering new delights at every turn, from the gentle kiddie rides to the adrenaline-pumping XScream drop tower.

Two attractions that I particularly enjoyed were the Sky Ride and the L. Ruth Express train ride. The Sky Ride offered a peaceful, scenic journey 45 feet above the park, providing stunning aerial views of the lush greenery and the sparkling Lake Erie. It was a perfect way to relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The L. Ruth Express took me on a delightful tour around the park, offering a leisurely way to see all the sights and enjoy the nostalgic ambiance.
The park also boasts a charming, nostalgic atmosphere. It’s a place where you can enjoy traditional amusement park fare, like cotton candy and funnel cakes, while strolling along beautifully landscaped pathways. The friendly staff and clean facilities only added to the overall pleasant experience.

For those looking to cool off, Waldameer’s adjacent water park, Water World, offers a refreshing escape with a variety of water slides, a lazy river, and wave pools. It’s the perfect way to beat the summer heat and add even more fun to your day.
Waldameer Park’s convenient location is another plus, situated less than three hours from Cedar Point and less than five hours from Kings Island. This makes it an easy addition to any amusement park road trip.

My visit to Waldameer Park was just an absolute delight. The park’s unique blend of thrilling rides, family-friendly attractions, and scenic beauty make it a gem in the world of amusement parks. Whether you’re a coaster enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out with family and friends, Waldameer Park is sure to deliver a fantastic experience. If you find yourself near Erie, PA, be sure to check it out – you won’t be disappointed!
