A new chapter begins at Kennywood this spring with the debut of Kennywood Junction, a family-friendly area replacing Thomas Town. Set to open on April 12—coinciding with Pittsburgh’s “412 Day” and the park’s opening day—the new themed section blends classic amusement park charm with tributes to the Steel City’s industrial heritage.

Kennywood Junction will feature five reimagined attractions, all transformed from the former Thomas Town rides. The area is designed to immerse families in a small steel town setting, celebrating both the park’s legacy and its deep Pittsburgh roots.

“This small steel town neighborhood pays tribute to the city of Pittsburgh and Kennywood’s rich history and will be full of pint-sized thrills of five rides families can experience together,” said Ricky Spicuzza, Kennywood’s general manager, in a video statement.

Among the lineup of attractions is Fire Bustin’ Brigade, where young firefighters-in-training will battle blazes from the back of a firetruck. Olde Kennywood Railroad makes a return, offering guests a journey through the park’s past with scenic views along the Monongahela River.

Thrill-seekers can experience the Kenny’s Cargo Drop, a pint-sized drop ride, while future aviators can soar through the skies on Parker’s Cloud Cruisers. Rounding out the selection is Coal Haulin’ Convoy, where four miniature locomotives take passengers on a tour of the new area.

Beyond the rides, Kennywood Junction introduces a Junction Gift Shop for park souvenirs and a Celebration Room, available for private events like birthday parties and graduations.

Kicking off the season, the park will also introduce a new costumed character, Tuft the Kennywood Easter Bunny, as part of its Eggcellent Easter Celebration, running from April 12 through April 27.

To mark the excitement, Kennywood is currently offering a limited-time discount of $50 off its Platinum Season Pass, bringing the price to $199.99. More details about Kennywood Junction, season passes, and upcoming events can be found at kennywood.com.
