Dollywood fans, brace yourselves—one of the park’s most thrilling rides is about to take a temporary break. The iconic Mystery Mine roller coaster will close at the end of Dollywood’s Harvest Festival on October 27, 2025, for behind-the-scenes updates. While details on the changes are still under wraps, the ride is set to reopen in 2026.
Mystery Mine has been a staple of Dollywood since 2007, wowing visitors with its 95-degree drop, two full inversions, and heart-pounding speeds. Though the coaster currently tops out at 43 miles per hour—down from its original speed—it still delivers twists, turns, and thrills through its 1,811-foot-long adventure inside an abandoned coal mine where uncertain encounters and amazing maneuvers await.
This isn’t Dollywood’s first time making fall updates to a coaster. In 2023, the park closed Lightning Rod to replace the launch system with a high-speed chain lift, boosting ride availability from 63% to 99% while keeping the ride experience just as electrifying.
Looking ahead, Mystery Mine isn’t the only attraction fans have to look forward to. In 2026, Dollywood will debut Night Flight Expedition, a first-of-its-kind hybrid coaster and whitewater raft ride housed in a 44,000-square-foot weather-independent facility. It seems the park is pulling out all the stops to keep thrill-seekers coming back for more.
