Just north of Chicago, generations of families have made summer memories at Six Flags Great America, whether introducing children to their first roller coaster, cooling off after a ride on Logger’s Run or spending a full day exploring the park together. In 2027, returning visitors will have another reason to plan a trip when Camp Timber Trail opens, transforming part of the park’s longtime Yukon Territory into an immersive woodland adventure built for families.

Rather than replacing the area’s history, Camp Timber Trail builds upon it. Familiar attractions remain, but they’ll be surrounded by new rides, interactive play spaces and nature-inspired theming designed to make this corner of the park feel like a family campground brought to life.

A family coaster takes flight through the treetops

The signature attraction will be Sky Hawk, billed as the Midwest’s longest, tallest and fastest suspended family roller coaster.

Designed to bridge the gap between children’s rides and larger thrill attractions, Sky Hawk will send riders soaring through the trees, delivering the feeling of flight while offering sweeping views of the woodland landscape below. It’s the type of attraction that parents, grandparents and younger riders can experience together, making it a centerpiece for multi-generational visits.

Camp Timber Trail will also introduce Trail Trotters, an imaginative wilderness expedition that encourages families to explore together, and Forest Grove Play Park, an expansive outdoor playground where younger adventurers can climb, discover and play in a nature-inspired setting.

Together, the attractions create an area that feels less like a traditional kids’ section and more like an outdoor adventure designed for the whole family.

Familiar favorites return with a fresh story

One of the most appealing aspects of Camp Timber Trail is that it blends what’s new with what’s already loved.

Several longtime attractions will receive refreshed themes that better fit the woodland setting while preserving the experiences guests have enjoyed for years. Sprocket Rockets becomes Chirp Chaser, a bird-themed family coaster, while Crazy Bus is reimagined as Wilderness Wagon. Yahoo River takes on a more rustic identity as Creek Cruiser, and Buzzy Beez returns with updated theming as Bee Boppin’.

Two longtime park favorites also remain at the heart of the area. Little Dipper continues welcoming young riders to their first coaster experience, while Logger’s Run carries on as one of Great America’s signature family attractions, connecting decades of memories with a new generation of visitors.

More reasons to slow down and explore

The experience extends beyond the rides. Families can expect themed dining, specialty treats, shopping and immersive details woven throughout Camp Timber Trail, creating an environment that encourages guests to linger rather than simply move from one attraction to the next.

The expansion is also more than a collection of new rides. Visitors will notice refreshed landscaping, upgraded pathways, enhanced guest amenities and an overall renewed look throughout this section of the park. Those improvements are expected to be the beginning of broader enhancements planned across Six Flags Great America’s 300-acre property over the next three to five years.

For travelers planning a Midwest theme park getaway, Camp Timber Trail represents more than another attraction opening. It’s the beginning of a new era for Six Flags Great America—one that honors the park’s nearly 50-year legacy while creating new family traditions for seasons to come.
