Today’s Six Flags third-quarter earnings report offers some encouraging signs, but it also highlights the challenges facing the company as it works to strengthen its financial position and rebuild guest confidence.
Same-park Adjusted EBITDA increased 10.7% through the first nine months of 2026, while the active season pass and membership base grew 7.1%. Those are positive developments and suggest some of the company’s strategies are gaining traction.
However, third-quarter same-park attendance declined 0.2% despite 54 additional operating days. Six Flags also reported a $366.1 million quarterly net loss, carries $4.91 billion in debt and has lowered its fourth-quarter earnings outlook.
Here’s what I believe Six Flags leadership needs to recognize: You cannot cost-cut your way to sustained guest loyalty.
Financial discipline is essential, particularly with the company’s substantial debt obligations. But reducing expenses alone won’t create the kind of guest experience that drives attendance, increases spending and builds long-term loyalty.
Guests need compelling reasons to visit beyond simply having a season pass. That means reliable attractions, quality food and beverage offerings, engaging entertainment, consistent operations, clean facilities and meaningful investment in the parks.
Above all, safety must remain nonnegotiable. Following the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, maintaining and strengthening guest confidence must remain a top priority.
The growth in season pass sales is encouraging, but selling passes and delivering value are two different things. The true measure of success is whether guests believe their experience justifies renewing year after year.
Six Flags has demonstrated that it can improve financial performance through expense management. The next challenge is proving it can translate those efficiencies into a stronger guest experience, increased attendance and sustained revenue growth.
The company’s long-term success won’t be determined solely by how much money it saves, but by how effectively it gives guests a reason to return.
