Spring Break is getting a high-speed kickoff in Texas. SeaWorld San Antonio has officially opened Barracuda Strike, a new roller coaster that blends family-friendly accessibility with the kind of soaring thrills usually reserved for bigger, more intense rides.

Barracuda Strike immediately becomes one of the park’s signature attractions. The new coaster is billed as the tallest inverted family coaster in North America, suspending riders beneath the track for a sensation of flight as they twist and dive above the park’s waterski lake.

The debut arrives just as SeaWorld San Antonio shifts into its Spring Break operating schedule, with the park open daily through March 22 as families begin their seasonal travel plans.

A Family Thrill Ride with Big Coaster Energy

Barracuda Strike was designed to deliver a true gateway thrill coaster experience—one that bridges the gap between smaller family rides and larger thrill attractions.

The adventure begins with a dramatic 90-foot lift hill, giving riders sweeping views of the park before the train dives into a series of fast-paced maneuvers. Suspended beneath 1,800 feet of track, riders swing through tight turns, swooping drops, and dynamic directional changes while reaching speeds of up to 44 miles per hour.

Because riders sit beneath the track rather than above it, the experience creates a unique feeling of gliding through the air. As the train races above the lake, the layout mirrors the swift, darting movements of a barracuda slicing through water.

Importantly, Barracuda Strike was built with families in mind. The ride has a minimum height requirement of just 42 inches, making it accessible to younger thrill-seekers ready to graduate from smaller rides into their first major coaster experience.

For parks across the country, attractions like this have become increasingly important. They offer the excitement coaster fans crave while remaining approachable enough for multi-generational groups visiting together.

A Ribbon Cutting That Celebrated Women in Leadership

The grand opening ceremony also carried special significance beyond the ride itself.

With the launch taking place during Women’s History Month, SeaWorld San Antonio used the ribbon cutting to recognize members of the park’s female leadership team who played key roles in bringing Barracuda Strike to life.

The celebration also welcomed Latinitas, a local organization that provides after-school programs focused on STEM education and leadership development for young girls. Members of SeaWorld’s leadership team spent time with the group during the event, sharing insights and encouraging the students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The moment underscored how theme parks often serve as real-world examples of STEM careers in action—from engineering and ride design to animal care and conservation science.

A New Centerpiece for SeaWorld San Antonio

Barracuda Strike arrives as SeaWorld San Antonio continues expanding its lineup of rides and attractions designed to complement its marine life experiences.

With its waterfront setting, family-friendly accessibility, and record-setting height for an inverted family coaster, the attraction is positioned to become a major centerpiece within the park’s ride collection.

For guests planning a Spring Break visit, the timing couldn’t be better. The park’s expanded operating schedule allows families to experience the new coaster alongside SeaWorld’s traditional mix of marine life encounters, live entertainment, and seasonal programming.

A Spring Break Deal for Visitors

SeaWorld is also promoting a limited-time Spring Break Sale that offers additional value for frequent visitors.

Guests who purchase a Season Pass or Annual Pass during the promotion receive free access to Aquatica, the park’s water park, as part of the package. Passholders also receive perks throughout the year such as free parking, free friend tickets, discounts on food and merchandise, and invitations to special events.

For families planning multiple visits—or hoping to experience both SeaWorld and Aquatica during the warmer months—the promotion can make a season pass one of the most economical ways to experience the park.

A Park with Conservation at Its Core

SeaWorld parks welcome millions of visitors each year, combining theme park thrills with animal encounters and educational programming designed to inspire guests to care about marine life.

For more than 60 years, the organization has supported marine life conservation through rescue operations, scientific research, and education initiatives. SeaWorld has helped rescue more than 42,000 animals, and its SeaWorld Conservation Fund has provided more than $20 million in grants to nearly 1,400 organizations worldwide.

Today, SeaWorld San Antonio joins parks in Orlando, San Diego, and Abu Dhabi as part of the United Parks & Resorts portfolio.

With the launch of Barracuda Strike, the Texas park adds a new reason for visitors to plan a trip—one that promises a fast, soaring adventure just in time for Spring Break.
