Looks like I’ll be spending some time in Doswell, Virginia next summer. Long one of my favorite amusement parks, Kings Dominion has unveiled plans for Rapterra, a Bolliger and Mabillard wing coaster set to open in 2025 for the park’s 50th anniversary season.

Standing at 145 feet tall and stretching 3,086 feet long, this impressive new attraction will be the world’s tallest and longest-launched wing coaster.

The addition of Rapterra is a game-changer for Kings Dominion. The roller coaster is inspired by the powerful Jungle Hawk, offering riders an unparalleled sensation of flight.

The adventure on Rapterra kicks off with a powerful launch, propelling passengers to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds before ascending to its highest point over the Jungle X-Pedition midway.

From there, the excitement truly begins. The ride plunges into a dive loop and navigates through a series of thrilling aerial maneuvers, including an S-turn, a wing slide, a flat spin, an airtime hill, and a 360-degree raptor roll. The entire 89-second experience features three inversions before delivering a smooth return to the station.

This ride isn’t just about speed and height—it’s about delivering a unique and exhilarating experience that will be talked about for years to come by those who visit Kings Dominion.

Rapterra’s key specifications include:

  • Designed by: Bolliger & Mabillard
  • Coaster type: Launched Wing
  • Tallest point: 145 feet
  • Launch speed: 65 miles per hour
  • Inversions: 3 (Dive loop, flat spin corkscrew, 360° raptor roll)
  • Length: 3,086 feet
  • Duration: 89 seconds
  • Trains: 2
  • Riders per train: 20

For Kings Dominion, Rapterra isn’t just a new ride; it’s a statement. It’s a testament to the park’s and Six Flags’ commitment to innovation and guest satisfaction. This coaster will undoubtedly draw thrill-seekers from all over, eager to experience what promises to be one of the most exciting new rides in the world for 2025.

As we look to the park’s 50th anniversary, the introduction of Rapterra symbolizes a bright future for Kings Dominion. It’s an opportunity for the park to showcase its ability to combine cutting-edge technology with imaginative theming, providing guests with unforgettable experiences.

Although, this was most likely in the works before the Cedar Fair/Six Flags merger, I am glad this is happening for KD.
