The iconic “Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to be reimagined with a whimsical Muppets twist, Disney Parks Blog announced. The beloved coaster will become “Muppet’s Mayhem,” marking the first Disney ride to feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and their zany friends.

“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” Disney shared in a statement. “Fans can look forward to laughter, screams, and new tunes throughout the adventure, as well as plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard.”

While Disney has not announced when “Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster” will close for its transformation, they assured fans there is still time to experience the current attraction, which debuted in 1999 and features the rock band Aerosmith.

Rumors about the ride’s future have swirled for months, particularly after it underwent an extensive refurbishment earlier this year. The change is welcome news for Disney enthusiasts who have long called for more representation of the Muppets in the parks. The announcement also coincides with the success of the 2023 Disney+ series The Muppets Mayhem.

A New Chapter for Muppets Courtyard

The announcement also revealed plans for a new Monsters, Inc. land, set to replace Muppets Courtyard. This new area, dedicated to the magical city of Monstropolis, will feature a suspended roller coaster recreating the film’s iconic door vault scene, along with themed shopping, dining, and a new theater show.

Muppets Courtyard, home to fan-favorite “Muppet*Vision 3D” since 1991, will close to make way for the development. The attraction, one of the last projects by Muppets creator Jim Henson, holds significant nostalgic value.

“As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future,” Disney stated.

Big Changes at Walt Disney World

The Muppets’ new ride is one of several major projects underway at Walt Disney World. Upcoming additions include a Cars-themed land at Magic Kingdom and an Encanto-themed attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney has not yet shared a timeline for the opening of “Muppet’s Mayhem” or the Monsters, Inc. land, but the announcements signal a commitment to updating the parks with fresh experiences while honoring fan-favorite franchises.
