As summer approaches, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) has set the stage for an exciting season of fun and adventure.

With a projected 2% increase in theme park attendance across North America and a promising 7% uptick in consumer spending, the industry is gearing up for a wave of visitors ready to make lasting memories.

According to Jakob Wahl, president and CEO of IAAPA, the surge in attendance can be attributed to a growing trend towards family-friendly entertainment and animal-oriented attractions.

During a recent presentation at SeaWorld Orlando, Wahl emphasized the willingness of visitors to splurge on special occasions, transforming their park experiences into unforgettable adventures.

“We have seen that people are willing to spend more on the parks because they want to make those days extra special,” Wahl explained. “With more upscale premier experiences like front-of-line privileges, fine dining, and exclusive animal encounters, guests are eager to enhance their park visits.”

IAAPA boasts a diverse membership representing various sectors of the attractions industry, including theme parks, water parks, zoos, family entertainment centers, and more, spanning over 100 countries worldwide.

Exciting additions to Central Florida’s theme parks are on the horizon, promising an even more immersive experience for visitors. From Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom to the Penguin Trek roller coaster at SeaWorld and DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios, the region is brimming with anticipation. Universal Studios is set to debut “CineSational,” a new lagoon show, along with the “Universal Mega Movie Parade,” adding to the allure of the park.

With major investments from industry giants like Universal, SeaWorld, and Disney, IAAPA’s Wahl is confident that international tourism will see a notable increase alongside domestic visitors.

As the summer sun beckons, amusement parks stand ready to welcome guests from near and far, offering thrilling rides, captivating shows, and unforgettable experiences for all ages.

With IAAPA’s optimistic forecast and exciting developments on the horizon, this summer could be one for the books in the world of amusement and adventure.
