Matt Eckert, President and CEO of Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, has been appointed to a two-year term on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB). The appointment, made by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, recognizes Eckert’s leadership in the travel and tourism industry and his ongoing efforts to influence policy at both the state and national levels.

The TTAB serves as the primary advisory group to the Secretary of Commerce, offering recommendations on policies that impact travel and tourism in the United States. As part of its mission, the Board addresses key issues such as travel facilitation, visa policies, infrastructure development, aviation security, and sustainable tourism. With the Visit America Act now making TTAB a congressionally mandated advisory board, its influence on national travel policy is more significant than ever.

Eckert’s appointment was welcomed by Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) Secretary and CEO Elaine Bedel, who praised his contributions to the industry.

“Matt’s leadership and advocacy have played an important role in shaping Indiana’s tourism landscape,” Bedel said. “His appointment to the TTAB will help bring Indiana’s voice to the national conversation, ensuring our state continues to thrive as a travel destination.”

Eckert is no stranger to shaping industry policies. As Chair of the Government Relations Committee for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), he has worked alongside industry leaders to influence legislation affecting attractions and tourism. His efforts have included lobbying for the BridgeUSA Cultural Exchange/Work Travel Program, ADA compliance for accessibility, drone safety, and ride safety regulations.

His appointment to the TTAB was also applauded by IAAPA President and CEO Jakob Wahl.

“Matt’s expertise and strong industry connections will be invaluable to the TTAB,” Wahl said. “His leadership within IAAPA has demonstrated his ability to advocate for the attractions industry, and I have no doubt he will bring the same dedication to this new role.”

As part of the TTAB, Eckert will contribute to shaping the National Travel and Tourism Strategy, helping to ensure the United States remains a top global destination. His appointment also underscores Indiana’s growing influence in the national tourism sector, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a leader in travel and attractions.

With Eckert’s background in both amusement park operations and government relations, his voice on the TTAB will help drive discussions that impact the future of the industry—both in Indiana and across the country.
