Universal Studios Hollywood is about to put pedal to the metal. “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” the park’s first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster, is set to open this summer—marking a major milestone for the Los Angeles theme park.
The announcement is being fueled by a flashy new media campaign, including a high-octane 30-second TV spot narrated by Vin Diesel, the longtime face of the Fast & Furious franchise and a frequent collaborator with Universal theme parks. The commercial will air during some of the biggest television events of the year, including the Winter Olympics, Super Bowl LX, and NBA All-Star coverage on NBC and Peacock.
Located on the Upper Lot, the attraction will be housed in a massive red-brick, garage-style show building and feature cutting-edge 360-degree rotation technology designed to simulate the feeling of high-speed drifting. Riders will spin and race at speeds up to 72 mph across 4,100 feet of track—nearly the length of 12 football fields—as the coaster weaves above sections of the park, including the iconic multi-level Starway escalator connecting the Upper and Lower Lots.
The ride’s debut also aligns with a major franchise moment. “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” arrives as Universal Pictures begins celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary and gears up for its final theatrical chapter, Fast Forever, scheduled for release in March 2028.
With decades of experience pushing the boundaries of modern coaster design across its global parks, Universal Destinations & Experiences is positioning Hollywood Drift as both a technological leap—and a high-speed love letter to one of cinema’s most adrenaline-fueled franchises.
