As summer temperatures begin rising across the Southeast, Dollywood’s Splash Country is preparing to open for its 26th season with an expanded lineup designed to keep guests in the water long after the sun goes down. The Smokies’ popular water park returns May 16 with a new after-hours event, upgraded guest amenities, fresh menu additions and an experience that continues to stand out as one of the cleanest water parks I’ve visited anywhere.

For families planning summer vacations to the Smoky Mountains, Splash Country has long occupied a unique place in the regional water park landscape. While many parks compete by simply adding bigger slides or louder attractions, Splash Country has consistently leaned into atmosphere, operations and guest comfort.

One of the Cleanest Water Parks in the Smokies

That attention to detail becomes apparent almost immediately upon entering the park. The landscaping is meticulously maintained, pathways are remarkably clean even during peak season, and the overall environment feels more relaxed and polished than many larger water parks around the country.

Cleanliness may not be the flashiest marketing angle in the water park business, but it absolutely shapes the guest experience. At Splash Country, the park’s upkeep contributes to an atmosphere that feels more welcoming and family-friendly from the moment guests arrive. It’s one of the reasons the park continues standing out in an increasingly competitive vacation market.

Neon Nights Transforms Splash Country After Dark

This season’s biggest addition is Neon Nights, a separately ticketed after-hours event that transforms the park into a glowing nighttime experience on select Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The event introduces neon lighting packages, immersive glow experiences, DJs and nighttime access to select attractions with lower crowd levels than guests typically encounter during the day.

The move reflects a broader trend developing across the theme park industry. Parks increasingly are looking beyond traditional operating hours to create premium experiences that encourage guests to extend visits and spend more time on property. Dollywood has successfully embraced this strategy in recent years with seasonal festivals and nighttime entertainment inside the main park, and Neon Nights feels like a natural extension of that philosophy into the water park space.

Unlike many after-hours events that simply keep rides open later, Splash Country appears to be creating an entirely different atmosphere after dark. In a competitive tourism market like Pigeon Forge, experiences that feel exclusive and limited-time can become strong vacation drivers.

Daytime visitors also will find new entertainment offerings this summer. Splash Bash LIVE returns beginning June 9 with DJs performing at the Wave Pool stage on select Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, adding more energy to the park during peak operating weeks.

New Food and Upgraded Amenities for Summer 2026

Food continues becoming an increasingly important part of the overall guest experience at theme parks and water parks alike, and Splash Country is leaning into that trend with several notable additions. New items include Firecracker Street Corn topped with cilantro lime crema and cotija cheese, Loaded BBQ Fries featuring smoked pork and queso blanco, and the Rocky Paw pastry topped with chocolate toffee crumbles and caramel drizzle.

The colorful beverage lineup also feels intentionally designed for social media visibility, with drinks like Ube Lemonade, Neon Pink Lemonade and Blue Raspberry Boba likely to become popular photo-friendly purchases throughout the summer.

Beyond the new additions, one of Splash Country’s biggest strengths remains its family-friendly layout and attention to comfort. During the offseason, the park upgraded all of its canopies with fans, mobile charging capabilities and mobile-order food delivery support. Those may sound like small operational details, but they matter significantly during long summer days when families are trying to stay comfortable between attractions.

Why Splash Country Continues to Stand Out

The park also continues emphasizing safety education with its annual Water Safety Day on June 25, highlighted by the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson. In an era when many seasonal attractions focus almost exclusively on entertainment, Splash Country’s continued investment in water safety programming helps reinforce its family-first positioning.

Operationally, the park is also moving fully cashless this season, accepting only electronic payments including credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. While cashless operations have become increasingly common throughout the industry, Splash Country’s rollout appears focused on reducing transaction times and simplifying purchases for guests moving between water attractions.

For families considering a Smoky Mountain vacation this summer, Splash Country’s continued evolution shows how regional water parks can remain competitive without losing the personality and hospitality that helped build their reputation in the first place. Between the nighttime Neon Nights experience, upgraded amenities and a consistently clean and well-maintained environment, Splash Country continues offering an experience that feels thoughtfully operated rather than simply crowded and chaotic.
