Visitors heading to Dollywood in 2026 will have a brand-new way to experience the park’s celebrated coaster lineup. The Smoky Mountains theme park has introduced Coaster Explorers, a guided experience designed to take guests deeper into the stories, engineering and thrills behind some of the park’s most popular rides.
The new three-hour walking tour combines front-of-the-line access with behind-the-scenes storytelling, giving guests an insider perspective on the design and history of Dollywood’s coaster collection. Participants join knowledgeable guides who lead the group through six of Dollywood’s award-winning attractions while sharing details about the technology, theming and creative inspiration that helped shape each ride.
A Guided Tour Through Dollywood’s Most Popular Coasters
For many visitors, Dollywood’s coaster lineup has become one of the park’s defining features. The new tour highlights some of its biggest headliners, including the launched wooden coaster Lightning Rod, the soaring wing coaster Wild Eagle, the terrain-hugging family coaster Big Bear Mountain, the wooden favorite Thunderhead, the dark-ride hybrid coaster Mystery Mine and the family-friendly launch coaster FireChaser Express.
Each stop along the tour includes priority ride access, allowing guests to bypass the regular queue and experience the attractions without the typical wait times. The tour also incorporates storytelling elements that highlight the creativity and technical innovation that go into designing rides in a mountainous landscape like the Great Smoky Mountains.
What Guests Get With the Coaster Explorers Experience
Beyond the rides themselves, the experience includes a collectible Coaster Explorers lanyard that participants receive at check-in, along with a commemorative keepsake presented at the conclusion of the tour. The guided format aims to create a stress-free way to explore the park’s coaster lineup while learning more about how each attraction came to life.
The Coaster Explorers tour is available for guests ages 4 and older and starts at $199 per person plus tax. Park admission is not included with the experience, and all participants must meet the ride requirements for each attraction included on the tour.
Guests who book the tour will check in two hours before the scheduled start time at Dollywood’s TimeSaver & Special Experiences Reservation Center, where they will receive their lanyard and instructions for the day’s itinerary. Tours typically begin around 11 a.m., though availability may vary depending on the day.
Dollywood season passholders also receive an added perk. Gold and Diamond passholders can receive a discount on the tour when signed into their account at the time of booking.
The new experience reflects a growing trend among major theme parks to offer guided tours that combine priority access with deeper storytelling. At a park known for blending Appalachian culture, craftsmanship and world-class attractions, Coaster Explorers offers a new way for visitors to appreciate the engineering and creativity behind Dollywood’s expanding ride collection.
For coaster fans planning a trip to the Smoky Mountains in 2026, the tour could turn a typical day in the park into a more immersive ride through one of America’s most respected coaster lineups.
