When the gates open at Carowinds on March 14, guests will be stepping into more than just the start of another operating season. The park’s 53rd year promises a calendar packed with new festivals, returning fan favorites and immersive experiences designed to stretch the fun from early spring all the way through the holidays.
Located on the state line between North Carolina and South Carolina, Carowinds has long been known for its mix of family-friendly attractions and thrill rides, including Fury 325, one of the tallest and fastest giga coasters in the world. In 2026, the park is leaning even further into seasonal entertainment, offering one of its most diverse special-event lineups to date.
Opening Weekend Sets the Tone
The season begins with a special preview night for 2026 season passholders on March 13, giving fans a first look at the park before it officially opens to the public the following day. Once the gates swing open, guests will find familiar rides, entertainment and dining options ready for another year, but the bigger story may be the steady stream of events planned throughout the calendar.
Spring Break Brings an Early Taste of Halloween
One of the most anticipated additions arrives during Spring Break, running April 3 through April 12. For the first time, Carowinds will introduce Scream Break, an early preview of its newest haunted attraction, The Conjuring: Beyond Fear. Inspired by the blockbuster horror franchise from Warner Bros., the interactive experience places guests inside recognizable scenes from the films as they attempt to lock away cursed artifacts before supernatural chaos is unleashed. It marks a rare chance for guests to experience a Halloween-style attraction six months before fall.
Spring continues with the return of Viva La Fiesta, which runs from April 17 through May 17. The colorful celebration highlights Latin culture with music, food and performances throughout the park. Soon after, summer begins in earnest with the opening of Carolina Harbor Waterpark on May 23, bringing slides, wave pools and water rides to the park’s warm-weather lineup.
Summer Adds Music, Water and Fireworks
Summer at Carowinds will also feature several new entertainment offerings. Beginning June 13 and running through Aug. 9, the park will launch Bands in Residence, a live music series spotlighting regional artists performing throughout the park.
Another new addition, SPLASH! Water Parade, will introduce colorful floats, music and interactive water elements designed to help guests cool off during the hottest days of the season.
The park’s summer highlight returns July 3 and 4 with Star-Spangled Nights, when fireworks light up the sky in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The annual event has become one of Carowinds’ most popular summer traditions, drawing visitors from across the Carolinas for the patriotic spectacle.
Fall Keeps the Energy Going
As the calendar turns to fall, the park transitions into Halloween mode with the return of SCarowinds, the region’s largest Halloween event. Running on select dates from Sept. 11 through Nov. 1, the nighttime celebration fills the park with scare zones, haunted mazes, themed food and hundreds of roaming monsters.
During the day, families can enjoy the lighter side of the season with Tricks and Treats, offering kid-friendly Halloween fun without the frights.
Later in the fall, Carowinds embraces Bavarian traditions with Oktoberfest, running on select dates in November. Guests can expect authentic German cuisine, craft beers and entertainment inspired by the world-famous festival.
WinterFest and New Year’s Eve Close Out the Year
The year concludes with one of the park’s most elaborate transformations. Beginning Nov. 27, WinterFest returns, turning the park into a holiday wonderland filled with sparkling lights, festive décor, seasonal treats and live performances. The celebration runs through Jan. 3 and culminates with the park’s family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31, featuring fireworks, live entertainment and countdowns to ring in the new year.
Why Carowinds Could Be a Top 2026 Travel Pick
With events spanning nearly every season, Carowinds is positioning its 2026 calendar as more than just a collection of ride days. Instead, the park is leaning into year-round experiences designed to keep guests returning again and again.
Access to all of the park’s special events is included with a 2026 Gold Season Pass, offering unlimited visits throughout the year. Additional event details and updates can be found on the park’s official website, though Carowinds notes that dates and offerings remain subject to change as the season approaches.
For travelers planning a visit to the Carolinas, the message is clear: 2026 at Carowinds won’t just be about the rides. It will be about the events that fill the spaces between them.
