Families planning a summer road trip through the Southeast have a new reason to stop at Wild Adventures Theme Park. The Georgia attraction recently celebrated the birth of three critically endangered Red Ruffed Lemurs, adding an adorable conservation success story to the park’s mix of rides, water attractions, and animal encounters.

The newborns — named Taylor, Red, and Marjorie — are already becoming stars at the park. Their arrival marks an important milestone for the species, which is listed as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Experts estimate fewer than 10,000 Red Ruffed Lemurs remain in the wild.

The playful trio joins a growing lemur family at Wild Adventures. Their parents, Val and Doug, have welcomed a litter every year since 2023, and the new arrivals are already bonding with siblings Swiper, Raven, Beans, and Dennis. Guests visiting later this season will likely spot the young lemurs grooming one another, sunbathing, or leaping around their habitat near the Giraffe Overlook.

A Rare Chance To See Red Ruffed Lemurs Up Close

Native to the rainforests of Madagascar, Red Ruffed Lemurs are known for their striking reddish fur, energetic personalities, and loud vocalizations. The species is considered one of the most vocal primates in the world, using more than a dozen distinct calls to communicate throughout the forest canopy.

Their charismatic behavior often makes them a guest favorite at zoos and wildlife parks, but their declining numbers in the wild also make conservation programs increasingly important. Habitat loss and hunting continue to threaten the species in Madagascar.

For Wild Adventures, the successful births highlight the role regional theme parks can play in wildlife education and conservation while creating memorable guest experiences.

More Than Just A Theme Park

Located off Interstate 75 halfway between Atlanta and Orlando, Wild Adventures combines a traditional theme park, water park, and zoo into one sprawling 170-acre destination.

The park features more than 35 rides, hundreds of exotic animals, seasonal concerts, and special events throughout the year. Splash Island Waterpark, included with admission, has earned national recognition, including a ranking among the “Top 30 Waterparks” by U.S. News & World Report. Its Paradise River attraction also was named America’s “Best Lazy River” by USA Today’s 10Best.

Wild Adventures has additionally gained attention for its affordability and campground accommodations. The adjacent Wild Adventures Safari Campground has earned a Good Sam 10/10★/10 rating, placing it among the nation’s highest-rated campgrounds.

With the arrival of Taylor, Red, and Marjorie, the park now offers visitors another memorable experience — and perhaps one of the cutest animal encounters guests will find this summer.
