The Walt Disney World Railroad is currently operating as a modified shuttle between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland’s Storybook Circus station as Disney continues major construction projects in Frontierland.

The temporary change is necessary to accommodate work on the upcoming Cars-themed area and Disney Villains Land, but it also means guests can no longer use the railroad to complete a full circle around the park.

Fortunately, there are several ways to navigate Magic Kingdom efficiently while the Walt Disney World Railroad Frontierland station remains closed.

One of the most useful shortcuts is Big Thunder Trail, the wide walkway connecting Fantasyland with Liberty Square and Frontierland. The path allows guests to avoid backtracking through the central hub and is often less crowded than the main thoroughfares.

Another overlooked route is the Tomorrowland Terrace bypass. During peak periods such as parades, fireworks, or nighttime entertainment, this side pathway can provide a faster connection between Main Street and Tomorrowland while avoiding some of the heaviest congestion near Cinderella Castle.

Guests using strollers or ECVs may find it helpful to treat the Storybook Circus station as a convenient gateway into Fantasyland. From there, it’s easy to continue past Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and reach Liberty Square without having to fight crowds in the park’s central plaza.

Crowd avoidance becomes especially important around showtimes. The hub in front of Cinderella Castle can become extremely congested, so consider using the outer castle pathways near Fairytale Garden or The Friar’s Nook to move between lands more efficiently.

For guests looking to maximize ride time, a counter-clockwise touring plan can also help. Starting the day in Adventureland and Frontierland before moving through Fantasyland and Tomorrowland often puts visitors ahead of the largest crowds, which tend to flow in the opposite direction.

Finally, think of the railroad’s current operation less as a transportation system and more as an attraction. The round-trip journey between Main Street and Storybook Circus provides a relaxing break from walking and a chance to enjoy unique views of the park while giving your feet a rest.
