Spring returns to Brooklyn in classic fashion this weekend as Luna Park in Coney Island reopens for the 2026 season on Saturday at 11 a.m., bringing with it a mix of nostalgia, seaside energy and one of amusement park history’s most beloved traditions.

Opening weekend sets the tone with a two-day celebration that blends old-school charm with high-flying thrills. Guests can dive back into the park’s signature rides, boardwalk bites and oceanfront atmosphere, but the real spotlight arrives Sunday morning with a ritual that’s uniquely Coney Island.

A Toast to the Cyclone’s Legacy

At 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, the iconic Coney Island Cyclone will once again be christened with egg creams, a quirky, time-honored tradition that celebrates the wooden coaster’s enduring place in American amusement history. The moment is more than ceremony—it’s a tribute to a ride that has defined generations of thrill-seekers.

This year’s celebration carries extra significance. The Cyclone turns 99 in June, officially launching the countdown to its 100th anniversary in 2027. To mark the occasion, the first 99 riders on Sunday will receive a free ride and a classic egg cream, adding a sweet bonus to an already memorable experience.

A Springboard Into the Coney Island Luna Park Season

Following opening weekend, Luna Park ramps up its schedule for spring visitors. The park will operate daily during Spring Break from April 2 through April 12, then transition to a Friday-through-Sunday schedule leading up to Memorial Day. Once summer arrives, the park returns to daily operations, offering a full slate of rides and entertainment along the historic boardwalk.

For travelers looking to shake off winter, Luna Park’s reopening signals more than just the start of a season—it’s the return of a timeless New York experience where history, thrills and tradition collide just steps from the Atlantic Ocean.
